GEMx Clinical Electives
U21 network has recently launched their clinical elective placement program among medical students from the U21 institutions. U21 aims to prepare medical students for life and work across borders, boundaries and cultures in the increasingly globalized 21st century society.
Interested in a clinical elective or research opportunity at a University that is not affiliated with GEMx or U21? No problem. More than a hundred of bilateral agreements have been stablished worldwide, and special addendums have been signed for medicine.

Universitas U21 Summer School for Health Sciences is a two-week course whose theme changes each year depending on emerging relevant health topics. Students engage in classroom work, clinical observation, and group projects. In addition to their academic responsibilities, students will be given time to explore the landmarks and cultural activities in the host city. In 2016, Pontificia Universidad Cátolica de Chile hosted the event, which focused on critical windows for intervention to prevent chronic diseases.
The 2017 Universitas 21 Health Sciences Summer School will be hosted by the University of Johannesburg on 16-28 July 2017 on the topic of “Global Health and the Social Determinants of Health”. More information can be found here.
The summer school is for undergraduate students from U21 Health Sciences Group member universities, which include:
University of Melbourne, University of Queensland, University of British Columbia, Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, Fudan University, University of Hong Kong, University College Dublin, Tecnológico de Monterrey, University of Auckland, Korea University, Lund University, University of Birmingham, University of Glasgow, University of Nottingham, University of Connecticut, and University of Johannesburg.
Students from the following disciplines are invited to apply and participate: Dentistry, Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy, Physiotherapy, Public Health and Rehabilitation Sciences students.
